Voddie Baucham

Voddie Baucham wears many hats. He is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker and church planter. He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas. He has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas, and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.

Voddie’s journey was an unusual one. He did not come to faith in Christ until his freshman year in college. He was then discipled by two teammates on the Rice University football team. Since then, he has served as teaching pastor, pastor of preaching, minister of missions in several local congregations. With over fifteen years of local church experience, Voddie Baucham has amassed wisdom beyond his years. Moreover, he has devoted much of his life to training and preparation for ministry.

Dr. Baucham holds degrees from Houston Baptist University (BA in Christianity/BA in Sociology), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.), an honorary degree from Southern California Seminary (D.D.), and additional post-graduate study at Oxford University.

Voddie and his wife Bridget have been married since 1989. They have four children, Jasmine, Trey, Elijah and Asher.

His recent book, Family Driven Faith, is fast becoming a favorite of godly parents seeking to raise godly children.

He graduated with a B.A. in Business from North Carolina State University, where he played golf on a golf scholarship. He remains an avid golfer, competing at local, state and national levels.

Curricular projects that he published, edited, or contributed to include the Omnibus curriculum, a great books curriculum; the Veritas Press History curriculum; the Veritas Press Bible curriculum, and the Veritas Press Phonics Museum.

Laurie Detweiler
Laurie Detweiler, well known for her creativity and the sense of wonder she brings to children in her educational endeavors is a vice president and owner of Veritas Press, an education company that specializes in classical Christian educational products and services. She has authored, edited and published numerous books and curricular products including the Veritas Press History, Veritas Press Bible, Veritas Press Phonics Museum and numerous comprehension guides for children’s literature.

She was instrumental in founding two classical Christian schools, The Geneva School, Orlando, Florida, and Veritas Academy, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In both instances she served as the curriculum coordinator for several years, playing the key role in establishing the curricular selections, sequence, and expectations.

Yet when asked what her greatest accomplishment has been, she quickly sidesteps the questions and says that her greatest joy is being a wife to Marlin and the mother of four incredible boys, Jameson (22), Brandon (20), Travis (19), and Parker (17).

Laurie graduated from the University of Miami in 1981 with a B.A. in Psychology. After teaching special education for one year, Laurie left the school system to focus on being a wife and mother. When her oldest son, Jameson, entered kindergarten, she and her husband became restless regarding the educational options available. After reading Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning by Doug Wilson, they realized that they had found the education they wanted for their children. Her involvements in classical Christian education, initially motivated to help her children, have made her a favorite speaker, consultant, and writer.
